Members of the Christchurch Business Club and their friends and family have had the opportunity to see great stage shows as part of the annual programme of the club. The club has had the benefit of enjoying the fabulously restored Isaac Theatre Royal from excellent seats at favourable pricing, by virtue of subscribing for seats on a group basis.
In 2015 club members were able to enjoy:

• Phantom of the Opera – the first major production at the then newly reopened theatre.
• Spamalot

Club members also attended the first major production of 2016 by Showbiz Christchurch, Mama Mia which has become a global entertainment phenomenon – the original West End production is now celebrating 16 years and over 6,000 performances in London. Mama Mia features the story of a wedding on a Greek island and a wealth of original music by the Swedish super-group ABBA.

Club member Derek Smail commented on the April 13 performance:
“Mama Mia was a magnificent production that fully lived up to its well deserved reputation as a high paced, entertaining and energetic musical comedy that has delighted global audiences for some 16 years. And having seen the original London show in June 1999], I can honestly say this Christchurch version compared most favourably with that.
The timing, energy and athleticism of what was so obviously a very happy and confident group of performing artists was infectious. Indeed, the audience’s spontaneous applause for many of the songs that were so powerfully sung by all actors was testament that they were totally involved and most appreciative of a great show.”

In June, club members attended Hairspray the multi Tony Award winning musical based on the cult 1988 John Waters film Hairspray. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and “downtown”rhythm and blues. It ran for over 2,500 performances, averaging an unheard of 99% capacity, for the first two years of its Broadway run, and went on to numerous international tours. The London production was nominated for a record-setting eleven Laurence Olivier Awards, winning for Best New Musical and in three other categories.
In 2007 Hairspray was released as a hugely successful movie.

In September, club members will be attending the famous stage show Evita.
