Peter C Guthrey, FNZIM

Our first speaker for the year on 22nd January is Peter Guthrey, Managing Director and owner of Guthrey Holdings Ltd and Guthrey Tourism Ltd, family businesses based in Christchurch.

Guthrey Holdings is the Parent company of ANZCRO Pty Ltd based in Queensland, the largest wholesaler of travel into New Zealand. This company employs approximately 100 staff in various offices including its head office in Southport, Queensland, the UK, Christchurch and Queenstown. The company’s principal product is its 120-page brochure with information on New Zealand Hotels, Motels, Rental Cars, Coach, Rail and Sightseeing activities. Approximately 65,000 people book their New Zealand holidays through travel agents and online with ANZCRO and its associated companies each year.

Guthrey Tourism Ltd is the joint parent company that includes Kirra Holidays which we have owned for the past 3 years. Kirra has been operating coach tours in New Zealand for 50 years.  Also Ski Express which brings skiers mainly from Australia to Queenstown and Mt Hutt. This company has an office in Queenstown. Last year the company purchased Relaxing Journeys an online company selling New Zealand. This company has an office in Auckland. The company also owns and operates the Queenstown iSite. Recently the company took a significant stake in another online company Travlr.

Guthrey Holdings owned and operated the Guthrey Centre in City Mall from 1988. The Guthrey Centre was demolished after the 2011 earthquakes and the land was sold earlier this year.

Peter is a former Board member of Christ’s College (18 years), NZIM Canterbury branch, and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. A former Area Co-Ordinator of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and former Trustee of Enterprise New Zealand.

He was also formally a trustee of Showbiz, Christchurch, and post-earthquake a trustee of the Akaroa War Memorial involved in fund raising for its reconstruction.

He is a former Club Captain and Board member of the Christchurch Golf Club and a former President of the Old Collegians Cricket Club

Peter is currently Chair of the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust, a trustee of the Champion Centre (early child intervention), the Canterbury Cricket Trust, owner of the Hagley Oval Hadlee Pavilion, and is on the Akaroa Hospital fund raising committee.
