Sir Robert Parker

On 27 March the club will be addressed by Sir Robert “Bob” Parker, KNZM, former New Zealand broadcaster and former Mayor of Christchurch from 2007 to 2013.
‎He is now Executive Chair NewUrban Group, China/NZ JV property construction of the Health Research Education Facility, which is involved with a $70 million building to be constructed in Christchurch’s health precinct.
He was the associate producer and original host (1984–1996) of the New Zealand version of the This is Your Life  TV series. He began a second career in local government career spanning more than two decades, first as councillor on the Banks Peninsula District Council in 1994, then mayor for two terms. After amalgamation of the district with Christchurch City, he won a by-election and became a Christchurch city councillor, and the sole Banks Peninsula representative on the council.
In 2006 he was elected the independent chair of the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy, and in October 2007, Parker won the Christchurch mayoralty. As mayor at the time of the Canterbury earthquakes he became the face of the city and was re-elected for a second term.
Sir Bob was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to local government and the community in the 2014 New Year Honours.
