CBC Keynote Speaker

Our guest speaker on 17 October 2016 is Gretchen La Roche, CEO of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Over the past fifty years, the orchestra has grown to establish itself as a cultural asset to Christchurch and the wider communities of the South Island of New Zealand.

Gretchen completed her BMus at Auckland University. Upon being awarded an Associated Board Post Graduate scholarship she attended the Royal Academy of Music in London. During her time in the UK Gretchen gave many recitals and also worked freelance with a number of London orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic.

She returned to New Zealand in 1996 to play with the Auckland Philharmonia before becoming Principal Clarinet with the Christchurch Symphony for 9 years and lecturer at the University of Canterbury. She now leads CSO’s management team.

Over the past fifty years, the orchestra has grown to establish itself as a cultural asset to Christchurch and the wider communities of the South Island of New Zealand.
