How to control your data – and to use it as a growth business tool in the of AI.age

It seems like a smoother way of pointing to how taking care of data can in turn enable innovation – i.e. careful governance of data and innovation are complementary, not mutually exclusive.

Chris McDowall is a specialist in data strategy, governance, and policy. In his former role at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment he developed an internal policy for Enterprise Data Governance, and designed a data catalogue using a tool called Informatica. He has previously supported a wide range of strategic data work around MBIE – including on data sharing, data standards, and a data and insights capability framework and job family. He has been a point of contact between MBIE and the government data system, leading MBIE’s participation in the Analytics and Research in Government summer internship, and its contribution to the Data Investment Plan. He is currently the Vice President of GOVIS – a network for technology, information, and data professionals in the public service.

Chris’s introduction to working in government was through the GovTechTalent graduate programme, and he has a Masters in marine biology. He lives in Upper Hutt with his young family, and enjoys trail running in the hills.
